What is with my shards and 666?

Seriously whenever I end up spending shards. There is a tremendously high chance I end up with exactly 666 shards remaining. This has happened like 5-7 times I've lost count.

I don't get it because the amounts awarded change. The amounts I can spend change...yet I always end up on 666.....
