Reminder of how slowing action speed works in this game
This seems to be needed again
Charges
This game works in charges. You need to do an amount of charges to complete a task. Gens for example take 80 charges, heals 16 charges and cleansing totems 14 charges
Survivors under normal circumstances work at 1 charge per second. So a gen would take 80 seconds to complete, a heal 16 seconds, cleaning a totem 14 seconds etc.
If a perk speaks of Action Speed penalty or reduced action speed they work slower for example Thrill adds a 50% action speed penalty to survivors cleansing speed.
This does NOT add time to the totem. It makes survivors do them slower. It isn't 14 * 1.5= 21 seconds but 14/0.5= 28 seconds
Blessing a hex totem takes 24 seconds so with 50% action penalty it will take 48 seconds
Same with the new hex: pentimento. It reduces action speed of survivors by 30% so a gen will take 80/(1-0.3)= about 114 seconds. not 80*1.3= 104 seconds
Stacking
Those slowdowns stack multiplicative. It is done this way so that you can never have zero or less action speed
For example if you have thana with 3 injured survivors and hex pentimento active survivors have a slowdown of 15% and 30%. to calculate how long a gen would take you divide 80 by (1-0.15) times (1-0.3)
So 80/(0.85*0.7)= about 134.5 seconds
Another example a survivor is mangled, inside of coulrophobia and using self care
Mangled has a 20% reduced action speed, Coulrophobia 50% and self care another 50%
So that's 16/(0.8*0.5*0.5) = 16/ 0.2= 80 seconds healing time
Penalty when working together
There also is an action speed penalty of a stackable 15% for every survivor you work together on a task with. That's why your progress bar turns red while technically doing gens faster with 2 people. You as an individual are slower. so when one survivor is helping you both are 15% slower, if 2 are helping all 3 are 30% slower and with 4 you all are 45% slower. Prove thyself removes this penalty
For example: 2 survivors on a gen with hex pentimento active. There is a 30% slowdown of pentimento and a 15% slowdown of a survivor helping. that gen will take 80/(0.7*0.85*2 survivors) or 80/1.19= 67 seconds to complete that generator
If 3 survivors are on it there is a 30% slowdown of pentimento and a 30% slowdown of survivors helping. that gen will take 80/(0.7*0.7*3 survivors)= 80/1.47= 54.5 seconds
If one of those 3 has prove thyself it removes the working together penalty and the gen wil take 80/(0.7 * 3 survivors)= 38 seconds
Action speed bonuses
These stack addictively which means they are just added together. for example Boon: Circle of Healing adds 100% action speed to healing. that means a survivor will heal at double speed or 2 charges per second. Which means healing another survivor will take 16/2= 8 seconds
Add botany's 33% increase in speed and the survivor will work at 1+(1+0.33)= 2.33 charges per second. That same heal will take 16/2.33= 6.8 seconds now
Action speed bonuses and penalties together
The self care portion of Cirle of Healing has a hidden 50% action speed penalty simular to normal selfcare. To know how fast a survivor heals themself you do 16/(slowdown*speedup) or in this case 16/(0.5*2)= 16 seconds to selfheal
If a survivor is in a boon: CoH area and have botany but are aflicted by mangled then it the self heal will take 16/(0.5*0.8)*(1+1+0.33)= 17.17 seconds
There used to be a forum member who could explain this way better then i can but i hope this clears some things up
TLDR: action speed penalties slow survivors down and do not add time to a task. adding 50% to a task means it will take 1.5 times as long, slowing down 50% means it will take twice as long
