Penalized for game crashing

so my character stopped moving and then it showed the dbd logo and took me back to the lobby with a 5 minute penalty. I’m 100% this was a server or the killers connection that did this. Any reason why? And BHVR do you plan on fixing accidental penalties?

    This is super common and has been a problem for at least 3 years. I do not think there is a fix coming anytime soon.

    It's pathetic that they do not handle Exceptions to determine what was the cause of the disconnect to be able to discriminate between crashes and ragequits. They have said they can't do that but anything about that has done a class in programming knows this is bullshit.
