Benevolence and Altruism Don't Make Sense

Overview

I'll try to keep this post short, here's what I am going to cover:

Current Values
New Values
Intended Results

Current Values

Benevolence

Safe Unhook: 20 Emblem Points
Heal: 0.1 Emblem Points per 1% (Full Heal is 10 Emblem Points)

Altruism

Unhook: 1000 Blood Points
Safe Unhook: 500 Blood Points
Heal: 400 Blood Points

[These numbers do not include any possible modifiers, these are the base and most common values]

The Unhook mechanic is vital and should be rewarded kindly, however at the moment it is very front loaded with points and does not adequately encourage healing injured survivors. This invites poor behavior, such as unhooking a survivor even when there is high risk involved for the hooked survivor, or leaving a survivor in the injured state.

As such I propose the values to be switched around in a way that properly repays a survivor for properly supporting their team, as well as compensates the risks involved in each action.

New Values

Benevolence

Safe Unhook: 15 Emblem Points
Heal: 0.15 Emblem Points per 1% (Full Heal is 15 Emblem Points)

Altruism

Unhook: 400 Blood Points
Safe Unhook: 900 Blood Points
Heal: 800 Blood Points

[These numbers do not include any possible modifiers, these shall be the base and most common values]

These new values should better reflect and reward proper Benevolent/Altruistic actions. The total possible Emblem Points remains the same as not to significantly change the category as a whole, and the Blood Points now more accurately reward the actions that assists in other players' survival and risk your own.

Additionally the Blood Points are slightly increased for a proper Unhook + Heal combo. The current values total in at 1900 Blood Points rewarded, while the new values total in at 2100 Blood Points rewarded.

Intended Results

These number adjustments should help dissuade unhook farming, while further encouraging actions that most directly assist in the survival of other players.

The changes shown here are not the only possible modifications to Benevolence/Altruism. These are merely quick revisions that would help deter poor behavior and reward appropriate actions. Furthermore, the suggestions here are deliberately simple, in order to allow for swift implementation of these new values

  • The short of it is:

Unhooks are worth too much, heals are worth too little, and this causes problems.

  • I get what you're saying, but 800 for a heal is madness. I say just buff healing to 500, safe unhook to 1000 and a hook save to 500.
This way, if you do a save, and you do it right, 2000BP. That seems fair, right?

While I understand your initial shock, unhook farming is not the only issue here.

The point of Benevolence/Altruism is to reward risking your own safety for the better of the team. However, not healing a survivor after an Unhook is easier, safer, and often more efficient for pipping and getting Blood Points.

An Unhook takes a few seconds at most, while healing on the other hand, takes 16 seconds normally, and can be increased significantly. The healing action requires much more time and personal risk, and thus should be rewarded much more than it currently is.

  • The values could adjusted further, but this should definitely cause a shift in player behavior and reward proper altruistic actions.
  • B-but people just run self care.... So it only (most of the time) buffs unhooks

I’m not sure if I’m interpreting what you said perfectly, but Self Care doubles the time it takes to heal.

So whether it’s another survivor healing the injured player, or the injured player healing themself. It’s a lot time being wasted, and can be equally or more risky for the injured person.

The point is that the game over rewards the unhook action and under rewards the healing action.
  • By reducing the amount of emblem points as well as blood points, the act of unhook farming becomes far less appealing to a variety of players.

Whether they actually want to rank up or not.
