New Vs Old BTL
Note: I'm pasting a lot of what I said from documents/DMs I've made. Just in case things flow awkwardly, now you know why.
Commodious toolbox saves 10.7 seconds without add-ons/perks
The toolbox has 32 charges by default. For the sake of this experiment, we'll assume to have 8 extra charges in the form of an add-on. Not the best (12 charges) but nothing to scoff at and 1 BNP.
10.7/32=0.334375 seconds saved per charge
1 BNP saves around 15 seconds
0.334375*40= 13.375 secs saved
Streetwise increases item efficiency by 25% AND stacks, so we will assume there’s only 1 person using it. After all, it's these builds that people fear.
13.375*1.25= 16.71875 seconds saved
Now, with new BTL you have the potential to use an item repeatedly. Once at 100% (start of the trial), 99%, 66%, and 33%
100+99+66+33=298%
16.71875*2.98=49.821875 seconds saved
Now we add the BNP to the mix
64.821875
Let’s include locker time. You go into a locker 3 times and lose 12 seconds each
12*3=36
Subtract 36 from the time saved
28.821875
That’s enough time saved that you’ll probably feel it as killer. On its own, it’s noticeable and can come at clutch moments but is reasonably balanced. If 4 people bring it… it’s another story.
28.821875*4=115.2875 seconds saved
This leaves a total of 284.7125 seconds of repair time from the original 400 seconds. This means about 3.5 gens are left.
On paper, this sounds fine. HOWEVER, this can all happen at the start of a game where a killer has little pressure applied to survivors, barely (if any) hooks, everyone is alive, and the killer is essentially playing as if there were about 3 gens left
Now, let's compare this to Old/Current BTL
With 40 charges and Streetwise, you can save 16.71875 seconds.
Now, with Current/Old BTL you replenish 50% of charges uninterrupted.
16.71875*1.5=25.078125 seconds saved
Factor in BNP and add 15 seconds
40.078125 seconds saved.
So... what's everyone worried about? It sounds like gen rush builds just got nerfed. Here's the thing, a lot of this is due to "locker time" being factored in. Obviously, if you're in a locker, the repairs stop.
But what if you're smart? What if you only hide in a locker when it's convenient? You pop a gen, set up some cool head-on play or something, and then go to the next one with a recharged toolbox. The locker time becomes less and less of a factor if you do it smartly.
So what if Locker Time isn't a factor? How much time is saved? 64.821875 seconds. If all 4 are smart and bring this (assuming they spread out and Streetwise doesn't stack as it does currently) then they collectively save 259.2875 seconds. That leaves 140.7125 seconds of repair time left which is slightly less than 2 generators. Compare this to Old BTL that saves 160.3005, leaving 239.6995 seconds or about 3 gens left in repair time.
Now, maybe—just MAYBE—I'm panicking and making a big deal out of nothing. Maybe I'm underestimating how much being in a locker can affect things. Maybe there's a math error somewhere that makes the entire thing overblown.
I would just prefer to be overly cautious than not cautious enough. Still, we have a PTB tomorrow. We'll see if we're worrying over nothing or not.
