The Conjurverse and how it would/would not in DBD (LONG and spoilers: tl;dr and PS at the end)
Hello everyone. There are a #########-ton of licenses people want in this game and I saw this a couple times so I guess I could cover this and say my thoughts on the Conjurverse(Conjuring Universe) for no real reason other than I want to.
So let me explain my thoughts. Not going to work. I love the movies but I really don't think it would work. I'll do an overall explanation then break down each character specifically (at least the ones that could be considered for DBD). Let's start with the obvious. The villains in the conjuring are all ghosts/demons of some sort but they rarely attack anybody directly. This is something similar to Slenderman. And being demons from hell or something close to them they're probably closer to Pinhead in terms of strength compared to the entity.
Malthus/Annabelle: Malthus is the demon linked to the popular Annabelle and is incredibly powerful. In the movies he was a beacon for other spirits and capable of killing people but not in the way of any killers in the game currently. In the first Annabelle movie he attacked Mia and carved his A onto her arm (which we can't even be sure was a real injury) and he attacked father Perez when he sent the priest flying and was admitted to the hospital. This already provides a problem. If that movie used DBD terms then you could've said father Perez was exposed and immediately put into the dying state. But according to father Perez a demon needs to be offered a soul before it can take it and Malthus wants a soul. And Mia's friend Evelyn commits suicide to give her soul to Malthus. So Malthus never directly killed anyone with like a claw or knife or anything similar to the weapons DBD killers wield. Now let's go over more of Malthus' powers. In the films he seemed to be able to make events happen and move stuff around. He also appears to have the ability to teleport (either that or he's moving bloody quick). It also seems to have multiple forms as he appeared as both a teenager and child in the films and switched between the two forms in an instant. He also took the form as a sort of zombified father Perez for a brief moment and he is capable of screwing with electronics. It was using these powers to convince Mia to offer her soul. Now moving on to the Annabelle doll. She is reported to be able to move around first starting off with a hand or leg in a different position then sometimes moving from room to room but we don't really see the doll move on screen other than when someone or something else is moving her such as when Malthus lifted Annabelle up and stared at Mia from behind the doll so it is safe to assume that the doll cannot actually move by herself and instead every movement of hers is really just Malthus changing her position. And as I said before Malthus is a beacon for other spirits and can convince them to attack people instead of doing it himself. When people try to throw away the doll it always comes back in one way or another. When a medium began speaking to the doll Malthus used Annabelle Higgins (the person who, with her boyfriend, summoned Malthus) as a disguise to trick the medium and the people who hired the medium. Due to Malthus mainly attacking via events and using his powers to trick people and due to the fact the doll rarely if at all moves on screen I do not think he could work. His main physical attack was when Father Perez was about to lock the doll away in a church which is a desperate time for Malthus considering he is a demon so church would be very bad for him.
Bathsheba Sherman: Bathsheba is a witch who cursed anyone who would dare to take the land she owned and hung herself after her husband caught her sacrificing their baby to Satan. She does regular ghost stuff including knocking stuff around and slamming doors. She also kills the dog Sadie though we don't see her do this onscreen and she can cause birds to slam against the walls of the house and break their necks. Bathsheba is not a demon but a ghost. And anybody who took her land would meet horrible fates. One time a woman with the last name of Walker moved in with her on Rory. According to the papers Rory went missing in the woods but in reality Walker killed her son. This is explained when the ghost of Mrs. Walker says "She made me do it," to Lorraine Warren. This confirms that Bathsheba possessed Mrs. Walker and used her to kill Rory. Afterwards Walker killed herself. There were other incidents to specifically after the original land was divided into smaller homes. A boy drowned in a pond "accident" and a maid in a neighboring home slit her own wrists and the maid herself said a similar line to Mrs. Walker when she says "Look what she made me do." There was also a bus accident that claimed the lives of 4 more children. Due to the trend of people being possessed to kill themselves or someone nearby it is safe to assume the bus driver was possessed by Bathsheba as well. In the actual movie the ghost of Bathsheba terrorizes the family for a couple nights and eventually possess the wife Carrolynn. After lying in wait for a small while she takes two of the daughters and tries to sacrifice them to Satan. She is stopped by the Warrens, her husband, Roger, Officer Brad, and Drew. They try to get Carrolynn out of the house which shows another power she has. As Carrolyn gets closer to the threshold her skin begins to burn so they take her back so Bathsheba doesn't kill her. Apparently Bathsheba is targeting mainly kids. If you read every incident you'll see children die aside from the maid who looks like a young adult so you could probably make an argument about that. This is because Bathsheba is trying to raise her status in the eyes of Satan which is why she has powers other ghosts don't. After possessing Carrolyn we see her levitate herself, levitate and use a shotgun, flip herself upside down to try and bust through the floor. If we were to get Bathsheba as a killer she would have to be a possessed Carrolyn Perron or a spirit who can possess a survivor and use them as a killer which I will admit to a degree sounds interesting but probably wouldn't work.
La Llorona: La Llorona is a figure from South American folklore and she has her own installment in the Conjuring franchise. However she does directly attack people. The obvious issue with La Llorona is her means of killing people. When she kills she drowns them. She doesn't use a weapon. Her nails are sharp as ######### so you could make an argument for that. As for her power she seems to be able to teleport or something close to it and move ######### around as well as send full grown adults flying implying she's pretty strong. But she only really kills via drowning which can be prevented. When she directly attacks someone its to burn them and mark them as her target, when they're in the way, or she's drowning them. This leaves the primary weapon as a problem or her hands which could probably work. But her power would be hard to implement unless it's BHVR's own version of La Llorona which would actually probably be better than the Conjurverse version.
The Crooked Man: The Crooked Man is probably the best candidate out of anyone who is going to be on this list. He directly tries to kill Ed Warren with his umbrella. But The Crooked Man is a shape shifter which runs into an issue where a shape-shifter is pretty much useless against an SWF. Similar to La Llorona it would probably have to be BHVR's own version of the Crooked Man.
The Nun/Valak: Probably the most requested villain of any Conjurverse film is The Nun aka Valak. But the thing is with her she mainly uses her supernatural powers to attack people. When she did attack people at least from what I've seen its mainly strangling which is not something that is going to injure someone like the weapons of DBD. Sure she has her true demon form but then what would be the point of adding her if she's not going to be in the form of the Nun, which is the form most commonly associated with Valak. She has been seen levitating, throwing stuff around with seemingly little effort, throwing people around with little effort, teleporting, shattering light fixtures, and has even forced and used other ghosts/entities to do her bidding such as Bill Wilkins and The Crooked man. Similar to Matlhus it appears that Malthus can also make events happen which is proven when lightning strikes the tree that Ed Warren would've been impaled by. Either that or she can summon lightning which would probably not work in the realm of the Entity. She, similar to Bathsheba can also possess people which brings back my one point about possession. Valak seems to be a perfect mixture of what make Bathsheba and Malthus not fit into DBD. She loves to possess people and she can take multiple forms at the same time while being in different places. She also has a level of magical power that I don't know how to explain. Its the scene where she buries Father Burke. I have no idea how that happened.
TL;DR: Basically there is something about most Conjurverse entities that would keep them from fitting into DBD. The two entities that would fit the most come from mythology or some sort of folklore so BHVR could just make their own versions of them.
PS: I'm not trying to shoot anybody down so if anyone has concepts for these characters please share them. Also I have yet to see The Devil Made Me Do It so if someone wants to explain why that movie would or would not work please explain.
