Play Thing/Lightborn showing as Debuffs on Survivor HUD

Just something I noticed and then tested out with some friends in customs.

Hex: Play Thing appears as a debuff on the survivor HUD while it's active on that survivor. No other hexes do this. Does anyone know what Play Thing is different and does just stick to status effect icons only? We thought maybe it only showed for the 90 seconds that only you could cleanse the totem, but tested and that wasn't the case. It simply just stayed until the totem was cleansed in general.

Same thing is happening with Lightborn. If you blind the killer with Flashbang or Blast Mine, and they have Lightborn, it's showing up as a debuff on the hud.

Possible bugs? Or does anyone have any idea why these changes are coming?

  • I think plaything showing a debuff is fair because it would be difficult to know how you are oblivious otherwise. Lightborn does reveal the aura of survivors who attempt blinding so i guess it makes sense it would show a debuff.

It wouldn't be difficult to know you're oblivious because you have the oblivious status effect icon above the hexed icon.

It's just more weird to me that other hexes don't do this? Like third seal also applies a status effect, but doesn't give a debuff icon.

It's also weird to me that lightburn only shows as a debuff when it counters RE perks, but not flashlights.

  • Man Lightborn shouldn't show a de buff, a big part of the power is the confusion caused by the fact your clicky clicky or big bang didn't work

DBD is full of inconsistencies. Hex : Devour Hope is one of the oldest hex perks, and it's supposed to give you a haste status effect but it actually doesn't, it increases your movement speed instead and shows a buff icon
