Fundamental questions about SBMM and Pip Rankings...
Question #1
So, we're not being told the metrics for the SBMM system... But when you stop and think about it...
... ... ... What could it possibly be?
It must use the same elements from the Pip system, just perhaps different allocations of weighting? Perhaps? MAYBE they have other metrics? But either way...
... Why would it be different?
Why would the SBMM metric be different from the Pip Ranking metric?
What purpose was the Pip Ranking system serving, if not to measure your skill and match you against equal players?
It sounds like SBMM is just another name for a system that might be wired a little differently, but both systems attempting to do the same thing anyway. So why are they different? Why do we have both?
Question #2
So, if ideally, SBMM gets people to their "true elo" where they will win about 50% of their matches...
And also, we get reset to Ash IV ranking every month...
Then, does that not mean that, BY DESIGN, we eventually get to a point where everyone sits at Ash IV forever, because they hit their true SBMM elo, and can't win more than they lose because games are evenly matched all the time?
This whole thing is just so fundamentally flawed. It makes me ask, what is GOING ON over there at the office???
Comments
This is just me speculating but I'd say that unlike the regular pips it keep adjusting even if you reach Iri 1, then it stays even after the ranks reset so starting next reset the Rank won't really mean anything other than playtime that month.
So even if it does use the same metrics as the pips, unlike the pips it will always be adjusting in the background.
Yes.
So...
Now that brings us to my OP.
SBMM is supposed to compare your skill level against the skill level of your opponent when determining how much you gain/lose, while the old system was solely based on how well you did in a match, ignoring the fact that maybe you did squat nothing because your opponent was like 300 times stronger than you
Theoretically yes, ranking up is going to be harder and harder the more your SBMM is adjusted, but you cannot lose grades anymore apart than during grade reset, meaning that if you reach Ash II and then you start losing, you'll never be pushed back to Ash III
Furthermore, since SBMM means a different thing than your grade, you could "lose" the match but pip anyway?
