The way to actually make match making work
Separate the game in 2 different modes: casual and competitive. Casual will use sbmm for matchmaking.
Competitve, however, will use our current rank system, with some slight changes. You will play 5 matches without a rank, for qualification. After those, based on your overall performance and past ranks, you are sent to the one matching your skills. While ranking up, great performance will also allow you to jump over ranks.
Rank reset will now only mark a new season, which means that you won't be simply thrown a few ranks lower, but you will have to requalify.
Additional note: sbmm is not in effect in competitive matches.
