Should the game continue to be balanced through perks?

Or would it be better to add weaker versions of some essential perks like ruin pop or BT (75%-100% slowdown base ruin, 5%-8% on kick base pop, around 5 second base BT)? Having some form of base gen regression as a weaker form of already existing perks, then having the perks bring them to full strength, would allow for players to use non meta builds without it being just a thrown match, while also not making meta builds any more powerful. Fixing the games problems through perks just makes essential perks that everyone runs all the time. This comes from me wishing I could stop running ruin undying or ruin pop on every single killer and make some more interesting and fun builds without losing every match when I do so.

  • Its definitely a case by case, im certainly not a fan of bhvr adding bandaid perks to problems like wglf and bbq having a bp modifier as a bandaid to the stupid amounts of grind but I also don't think making even just a severly weaker version of ruin to base kit would be in any way healthy to the game. Things like the stacking BP bonus from wglf and bbq should imo 100% be base kit and those perks be retuned or reworked accordingly afterwards.

  • For as long as DBD has existed perks have been used as a crutch for bad design.

Which is part of the reason slowdown perks are necessary for killers. Or the fact that without a handful of perks you have no base game protection from tunneling or camping.

Point is, they need to prioritize a balanced base game, that way perks won't be necessary to balance bad design decisions.

  • I think the game should not have been balanced around perks because it really just makes killers with OP powers even worse. However I don't think they could ever change every single perk to reflect a new type of balancing. We will be stuck with it until the game dies.

Ruin already has a base kit variant: Kicked Generators regress.

This can be easily circumvented by gen-tapping, so a minor initial % regression like Pop would be nice. Base gen regression rate could be nerfed to compensate.

5 sec of BT is easily circumvented, even now BT can be circumvented if the Killer is truly intent on Tunneling.

No, Ruin is the one where you don't need to kick gens. Making it base kit would mean that gens automatically regress if they are left alone.

its not meant to be powerful, only to be something

Also base gen regression speed is 4X slower than 1 survivor. its practically worthless. It takes 16 seconds for it to even equal the time taken to kick it in regression.
