We NEED a code audit. PostHaste

Look, devs, by now you should be aware that whatever events you got planned will fall flat because of the onslaught of bugs breaking the game and people's platforms.

So, for crying out loud, get someone to audit your code, cause no matter how much you say it's not spaghetti-code, the facts speak against it. example?

even without being able to look at the code I can take a good guess that there's a broken function-call for ranged killers with an effect.

Huntress might be save-ish cause her hatchett is simply another basic-attack.

But all other ranged killers suffer from the effects (infection, spearing, slow-down etc) not being called commonly.

The most likely case is that instead of having the killers and their functions as groups per killer, you likely got the killers ungrouped, but the functions for the effects as a group somewhere else in the code. and not even grouped with the visual and audio effects.

Cause what happens commonly right now (with plague, slinger, clown etc) is this:

  1. A ranged attack hits
  2. The game tries to call the visual/audio effects.
  3. It successfully calls them (maybe)
  4. The game tries to call the actual effect (infection, stun+ spearing, slow-down) elsewhere in the code
  5. It fails.

This can only really happen if you have these things in three or more different places, for no good reason.

(edit: alternatively the code might not be able to return from a sub-routine to continue to the effect routine and instead continues with the regular game)

And that is just one of many issues.

Another is the thing now with the Station map. Why exactly do you need it to have a miniscule chance of popping up in regular matches to be available in custom ones?

This should be two simple true/false variable that permits/denies the map from being loaded into regular matches/custom matches.

wth?

Same with linked sets. Good heavens, it's another single boolean variable to tell the game if a head/body cosmetic is worn without the respective other part to swap the mesh to have a hoodie down/tied together at the front and such.

This isn't rocket science.

So please, push all the events and chapters back and get a proper code audit.

  • First of all, there's someone who does audits for codes? I've heard of code reviews... Are they the same thing?

Second of all, I'm not sure there's enough pay for someone who audits / reviews DBD's spaghetti code.
