Something to keep in mind with your theories.

While the span of time before World War I is indeed large there is a player you are all forgetting, the survivor. So for some of the ideas, we've all had of cavemen and knights we need to remember that the survivor will need to know what a generator is, and how to repair one. Now granted they could easily have an ancient killer with the survivor being a professor of the era (For example, the New killer is a knight so the new Survivor would be a medieval Europe Professor or something similar).

Just food for thoughts and theories.

    Humans are really fast to learn stuff, and have always been, is basically our evolutional "superpower" that granted us the ability to rule over all other species.
    Put a medieval paesant in front of a generator and he won't know what it is, let him watch someone fix it and he will learn to fix it himself in a few days, maibe less time if from that depend his life.
