Depiping on merciless killer?

I got merciless killer in a public match and it took away a pip. It's been doing that for a while, usually it happens in batches. It'll happen every match until I get off, then stop then back on again sometime later. It's frustrating to see a depip after playing such a good game. (Post-game chat covered for privacy, more info below)

EDIT: I exit and reload into the game and it gave me the two missing pips. Still seems to be a visual bug if nothing else.

I play on the Steam version of the game.

PC Specs (Not sure if this might be important so I'm including it):

i7 9700k

GTX 1080 MSI Armor

32GB 3200MHz DDR4 RAM (I think the brand was HyperX but I'm not 100% sure)

MSI Z390 Motherboard
