When does the DC penalty activate?

This may sound a dumb question, but at what point does the penalty apply? I've had a couple of lobbies where a survivor dc within the last couple of seconds, meaning everyone sits through the loading screen, knowing the trial won't start.This feels like a form of griefing?

Is it possible when the lobby starts couting down to those final seconds that anyone who lobby-dodges there also gets the penalty? It's annoying for both survivors and killers alike.

    once the match begins. If you DC in the loading screen no DC penalty is applied. Which is fortunate, because this game crashes on the loading screen an awful lot.

    After the match as started, if you leave, you will get a penality

    It will only give you the DC penalty if you DC after the match begun. It’s crashed in the loading screen for me before and I haven’t got a DC penalty from that.
