New Chapter Idea: The Mind's Insight
Just another chapter idea I had stirring around for a while. This is really just for fun to see what others think. Let me know if you like it.
Welcome to Dead by Daylight: The Mind's Insight. Enter the Halls of Penitence. An abandoned warehouse turned hideout, a devious mastermind traps unwitting criminals and subjects them to grueling tests of repentance and suffering, watching their every action to see if they are worthy of living in spite of their transgressions. Those that fail the tests fall victim to agonizing and gruesome executions through devious contraptions.
The new Killer is The Aperture. Hanako Shinigami is a young woman who had only known a life of suffering. Since she was a little girl, her mother Fumiko Shinigami, a private investigator, neglected her at the best of times, and physically and emotionally abused her at the worst of times. There came a day where Hanako could no longer endure her mother's torment and attempted suicide by jumping in front of a subway train. Although she survived, she was left badly wounded and permanently lost her left eye. Distraught and hopeless, she ran away from home and hid away in an abandoned warehouse, shutting herself away from the world. While lurking throughout her neighborhood, she would meet a few people that empathized with her, one in particular being a punk vocalist named Zee Marcel. After several arranged meetings, Zee would come to be Hanako's partner and assist her in a shared plan to capture evil individuals and subject them to torturous tests. Hanako consulted a surgeon that was able to implant a surveillance camera in her head that allowed her to record and spy on potential test subjects, and after a slew of killings and eventual media coverage, she would come to be known as the Aperture Killer. After many tests ending in bloodshed, including a test that ended with Hanako's mother being trapped in a cell and condemned to starve to death, Hanako was eventually cornered by a policeman that managed to chase her to the rooftop of a building. In one final act of defiance, she leaped from the rooftop, laughing as she fell to the concrete below. As her life faded and blood poured from what remained of her head, a dark fog enveloped her and whisked her away to a familiar but hostile realm. Somehow Hanako knew, without being told, what she was meant to do: test all who arrive, and deliver justice to the ones who are unworthy of life.
The Aperture's power is Grim Surveillance. You are a shorter killer, have normal movement speed (115%) and have a smaller terror radius (24m) than normal. You utilize a fan with a concealed blade that can be used to inflict deep cuts on survivors, and have access to video cameras that can be placed throughout the environment. Pressing the Active Ability button places a surveillance camera on the ground that reveals the aura of survivors that move within 12 meters of it; up to four can be placed throughout the trial. Survivors can hear the beeps of a camera and take 8 seconds to break the camera if they find it, triggering a loud noise notification. Pressing Space allows you to pick up a camera that has been placed or broken. Press and hold the Power Button to charge up a special attack, briefly slowing yourself for 2 seconds before quickly lunging forward at a speed of 40 m/s and attacking with a Wide Slash that injures all survivors caught in it. Wide Slash can be canceled. Attacking Pallets or Breakable Walls with Wide Slash will destroy them.
The Aperture comes with three teachable perks:
Prisoner's Dilemma
Subjects who are tested sometimes turn on each other and abandon all rational thought. When a survivor unhooks another survivor, both survivors suffer from the Oblivious status effect when within 4/8/12 meters of each other for 30 seconds. This effect also applies whenever survivors perform a cooperative action.
"Working together will be hazardous, but selfishness will result in death. Do not forget this rule." -Hanako Shinigami
Time Bomb
Your tests impose immense pressure on subjects as the clock ticks down. 5/4/3 seconds after hooking survivors 3 times, all Generators will explode and begin regressing. Generators affected by Time Bomb immediately lose 8% of their progress.
"When given an exact time of death, subjects often succumb to desperation. The will to live is the strongest motivator there is." -Hanako Shinigami
Hex: Atonement
A Hex that ensures your subjects pay for their transgressions though torment. You become obsessed with one survivor. Hitting the Obsession with your basic attack inflicts the Blindness, Hemorrhage, Hindered, Mangled and Oblivious status effect. When a survivor heals the Obsession one health state, they become the new Obsession and inherit all these status effects (if more than one survivor was healing the Obsession, one is chosen at random). You can only be obsessed with one survivor at a time. The Hex effects persist as long as the related Hex Totem is standing.
"These criminals may be human, but all I see are tumors that plague society, and they must be excised." -Hanako Shinigami
Common Add-Ons
Bloody Ribbon: Hanako's favorite hair accessory. There are bits of blood and brain matter still remaining on it. Increases Wide Slash attack range by 4 meters
Disinfectant Bottle: Ever since her subway incident, Hanako had to disinfect her wound regularly. This bottle is far past its date. Decreases Wide Slash miss cooldown by 20%
Miniature Wrench: A tool Hanako sometimes uses to tinker her testing devices. Though she was not an engineer, she was rather crafty and creative in her torment. Increases the total number of available surveillance cameras by 1
Frayed Wire: A wire that used to be connected to one of many cameras Hanako placed throughout her tests. This one is still salvageable. Reduces the range Survivors can hear surveillance cameras by 8 meters
Uncommon Add-Ons
Rusty Gear: One of many gears that made up Hanako's various testing deathtraps. This one was for a device that would twist its victim's head around. Survivors hit by Wide Slash suffer from the Mangled status effect for 60 seconds
Translucent String: A shockingly sharp string that would sever the limbs of test subjects who were too reckless. Increases Wide Slash attack range by 6 meters
Solid State Drive: A hard drive that contains recordings of every test Hanako conducted. The contents are difficult to watch without feeling unease. Increases number of available surveillance cameras by 1. Decreases Wide Slash charge time by 20%
Large Battery: A battery that powers many deathtrap devices. Sometimes, even the battery itself is used to cause pain. Increases surveillance camera setting speed by 40%
Titanium Case: A very durable case that often holds items needed by test subjects to perform grueling tasks set by Hanako. Even looking at the case fills subjects with dread. Increases the time needed to destroy a surveillance camera by 6 seconds
Rare Add-Ons
Hydrochloric Acid: An acid that is sometimes used in tests. It burns slowly, causing prolonged agony to unfortunate test subjects. Survivors hit by Wide Slash suffer from the Broken status effect for 60 seconds
Signal Jammer: A device that prevents communication devices from working properly. Using this gives a sense of control over others. Survivors suffer from the Oblivious status effect while in range of a surveillance camera
Heart Rate Monitor: A device planted on test subjects to monitor their vitals. If it detects a flatline, other test subjects will experience harsher challenges. Downing a Survivor with Wide Slash reveals the Aura of Survivors within 16 meters for 4 seconds
Wet Sneakers: Rain soaked sneakers that Hanako never got rid of even when she eventually replaced them. In the realm of the Entity, these sneakers seem to grant surprising agility. Increases movement speed while charging up Wide Slash by 9%
Razor Blade Chain: A chain that is creatively constructed from razor blades. Test subjects faced with this are filled with terror. When Healthy Survivors destroy a surveillance camera, they become Injured
Very Rare Add-Ons
Experimental Neurotoxin: A neurotoxin that debilitates the mind and acts as incentive for test subjects to work together or die having reality dissolve around them. Survivors hit by Wide Slash have their vision blurred for 30 seconds and see illusions of The Aperture every 5 seconds. The Aperture can see the Aura of these illusions
Gruesome Manga: A grisly manga depicting a story of girls trapped in a basement and becoming delirious and unhinged. Reading this manga inspired many deathtraps for Hanako. Injured Survivors are revealed for 6 seconds after leaving a surveillance camera's range
Surgical Laser: A laser that is designed to cut through skin. It played a role in punishing a test subject that skinned animals and humans alive for fun. Survivors' healing speeds are reduced by 50% when within range of a surveillance camera
Zee's Drawing: A colored pencil drawing made by Hanako's partner, Zee. It depicts the two of them drinking boba together, and they seem happy, in spite of everything. Hooking a Survivor repairs all broken surveillance cameras
Ultra Rare Add-Ons
Voice Recording: Hanako would always personally instruct her test subjects through the tests, often revealing their transgressions with a venomous tone in her voice. After hooking Survivors three times, your next Wide Slash attack will put Survivors into the Dying State
Iridescent Lens: A camera lens made of glass molded from the Fog. Attaching this lens to her "eye" grants Hanako even greater awareness. Every 30 seconds, one broken surveillance camera chosen at random becomes fixed
The new Survivor is Sun-Hi Yeon. Sun-Hi is an ambitious surgeon that grew weary of seeing the corruption of those in the medical field and chose to revolt in a twisted manner. Though she was a very skilled surgeon, many obstacles were imposed on her that kept her from her full potential, such as her superiors and leading researchers in her field. Debates of not curing cancer because it is more profitable to keep patients sick, prioritizing lifespan over health span, among other things made Sun-Hi resent her colleagues, wishing for so much more and so much better. In an act of desperation and rebellion, she began to abduct patients and treat their ailments herself, and although her procedures usually resulted in a healthier patient, she was nonetheless labeled as a criminal when she was caught. After fleeing from the police, Sun-Hi sought refuge in abandoned hospitals where she continued to illegally practice before drawing the attention of a serial killer. She was kidnapped and subjected to a series of dangerous obstacles that left her mangled and bloodied, but she managed to survive and become an assistant to the serial killer. In exchange for being able to perform her operations, she would also act as executioner for the serial killer's victims. In her mind, Sun-Hi felt that this was a small price to pay for what she would eventually accomplish. In an encounter with a policeman, Sun-Hi was shot twice, leaving her bleeding on the floor of a grimy operation room. As a dark fog came to claim her, Sun-Hi vowed to try harder in her next life, unaware that her current life had other plans for her.
Sun-Hi Yeon comes with three teachable perks:
Duplicity
Though you are manipulative, it is a means to a more noble end. Working on a Generator for a total of 20 seconds while another Survivor is hooked grants a token, up to a maximum of 2/3/4 tokens. For each token, increase healing and unhooking speeds by 10% and reduce grunts of pain by 20%
"They may call me a witch now, but the moment I cure cancer or discover the secret to immortality, they'll be singing praises." -Sun-Hi Yeon
Sinister Connections
Your connections with the dark and destructive will further your pursuit of greatness. When you are the Killer's Obsession, whenever your aura is revealed to the Killer by any means, you are able to see Killer's aura for 3/4/5 seconds. Gain 100% more Bloodpoints in the Boldness category. Increases the odds of being the Obsession. The Killer can only be obsessed with one Survivor at a time.
"I've passed her test before and earned her respect. If staying on her good side means I get to further my work, so be it." -Sun-Hi Yeon
Surgical Precision
Your expertise in surgery will be recognized by those in dire need. When healing a Survivor without a Medkit, you will be faced with a Difficult Skill Check upon reaching 50% healing progression. Succeeding the Skill Check instantly heals the Survivor one health state and grants both you and the Survivor the Haste status effect, moving at an increased speed of 7% for 40/50/60 seconds. During this time, both your Aura and the Survivor's Aura cannot be revealed to the Killer. When using Surgical Precision, normal Healing Skill Checks no longer occur.
"Bear with me, my success here will contribute to even greater things in the future. I will make it happen." -Sun-Hi Yeon
