The devs should prioritize fixing playstyle problems with some degree of elegance.
What I mean here is that, if there's a problem to do with how players are approaching the game, the devs should implement solutions that don't intrude on gameplay to make it impossible, but that they should implement solutions that make the problematic playstyle suboptimal.
Okay, let me give an example.
Back in 2016, Trapper could make it impossible to safely unhook by placing a bear trap at the feet of a survivor. Even if you managed to wiggle past the trap and unhook, you would get caught in it at the end of the animation.
This was dumb as #########, and absolutely needed to be fixed.
The solution they went with was to put a hard block on Trapper's ability to place traps near hooks. This was a terrible change, because it feels intrusive and completely arbitrary. If you find an amazing trap spot at a jungle gym
The solution they should have gone with (and one they did end up doing eventually) was adding "Swivel Hooks". By allowing survivors to unhook from any angle, it was now impossible for killers to bodyblock the unhook prompt, but it would also prevent Trapper from Trap-blocking it.
Similar solutions can (and should) be considered for cases like The Twins.
Yes, a camping Twin feels like bullshit, but we can do better than "You can't use Victor within 12 meters of a hook".
Here's one way you could fix this:
- Victor now counts as a killer.
- He has access to perks and interacts with survivor perks
- His screams now count as a terror radius (still no audible heartbeat or music, but they will trigger BT).
- Charlotte's dormant terror radius is now a set 12 meters, which cannot be manipulated
- Victor's idle killer instinct now applies to "The Closest Survivor" rather than "all moving survivors"
- Charlotte can now recall an idle Victor at any time
Don't make it arbitrarily impossible to camp, just make it a bad idea.
With these changes, several notable things happen.
- It's no longer possible to ignore Borrowed Time by leaving one Twin by the hook, since unless you're a decent distance from the hook
- Victor can now be seen via Kindred
- If you leave Victor too close to a hook, you won't be able to use his killer instinct to find people going for an unhook, since he will only be able to reveal the person on the hook.
- Since Charlotte can now recall Victor, and camping with him is weaker, she's encouraged to bring him with her and hunt together rather than to go do what she can alone until Victor senses somebody.
