Here's a short story relating to my dragon killer concept from a few weeks back
The beast slowly opened it's eyes as it felt a keenly unfamiliar and otherworldly presence in it's mind, a twisting, ever changing web of blackness decorated by bright orange cells not dissimilar to the pus the creature secreted ever since it could remember. It was calling out to it, it would enter a trial, hunt down and kill four humans. The beast's vision faded to a still black following this before it had time to even process this command.
It found itself in the middle of a clearing, decorated by large oak trees and a storehouse long since abandoned and left to decay. The monster began moving it's titanic frame, picking up the scent of multiple humans. It let out a sickening and ferocious roar and began moving, footsteps shaking the earth as it darted through the trees.
Jake, alongside Felix, were working on a generator inside the Killer Shack when they heard the roar, Jake, a seasoned veteran of the trials by this point, had heard nothing like it before, Felix, who had only arrived in the realms what felt like a few months ago, was scared.
"What the hell was that?" Felix asked quickly and worrisomely.
"I don't know, but whatever it is it isn't good" Jake responded quietly.
"Do you think Yui and David will be fine?"
"Knowing those two, probably so", Jake quickly and quietly crouched out of the shack and motioned to Felix to follow him, the two hid behind a wall as they heard increasingly louder footsteps.
The beast followed the scent to a small shack like building housing several lockers and a peculiar machine the creature had never seen before, it sniffed at the device and the lockers, following the scent to a wall near the shack, before it got the chance to look behind the wall a sharp explosion sound pierced it's ears and a strange aura showed itself, the beast roared and ran to it.
Jake was busy trying to keep a hysterical Felix from collapsing, they had never seen anything like it, they had faced demons and monsters before, but nothing like what they had just witnessed.
"What...What was that abomination?" Felix panickily asked.
"I don't know, but at least we're not facing the Spirit or the Nurse"
"Yeah, I guess there's that" Felix hurried back into the shack, "We need to get these generators done as fast as possible, I don't want to find out what that beast can do"
"I second that notion" Jake said, running back to the shack, they had way too close of a shave there, now they were hoping that Yui and David would be able to get out of that.
"Damn it!" David shouted as he missed a crucial check, setting the generator off, "Now whatever we're facing is going to know where we are!"
"Not if we don't move, come on!" Yui rationally said as the two moved away from the generator outside and moved to one inside the Groaning Storehouse, beginning work just as they heard loud footsteps and a unnerving growl.
"Oni?" David asked.
"No, bigger" Yui said, already getting ready to run at a moments notice, David decided to move away and hide in some of the bushes.
The beast knew that something was hiding there, looking around the large storehouse it sniffed around, before hearing a shrill scream, it turned and saw a 2-legged creature with pale skin, clad in pink and black garments running away as fast as it's legs could carry it, it viciously began giving chase, remembering the presence's request, musing that this must be a human.
Yui screamed and ran away from the grotesque creature that she saw, heading for the nearest pallet, the beast gave chase, catching up incredibly quickly, but Yui managed to drop the pallet on the beast, stunning it, once it got up it roared loudly and destroyed the pallet in a single strike. The beast grew visibly angry and opened it's mouth, fires right out of hell spewing from the monster's throat, Yui tried to dodge out of the way but took a hit straight to the back, becoming Injured.
David ran after the massive beast as he watched Yui take a fireball to the back, The beast lunged forward and above her, bright, glowing orange eyes meeting the girl's fearful gaze as it swiped at her chest, knocking her down, before the beast could do anything David threw the Firecrackers he bought with him, blinding the beast, Picking Yui up before the beast could recover, running away as fast as they could.
The beast roared as it regained it's vision, it had lost it's prey, now it would have to relocate it's target, which became easy as it heard a loud sound and saw some lights flare up.
Jake and Felix finished their generator as they ran into David carrying a injured Yui, the three talked as they healed.
"What happened?" asked Felix
"I ran into the killer, or monster would be a better term" Yui said, "It packs a punch, is fast, and apparently can breathe fire"
"Are you serious?" Jake responded.
"It hit me in the back" she said, showing her singed jacket.
They finished the heal as they heard the roar again, seeing how scared his team was, Jake made his decision. Closing his eyes, he said "Finish the generators, I will distract it"
"Are you out of your mind?!" David said, grabbing Jake by the shirt, "I'll do it!"
"David, put me down or I will make you" Jake said venomously, "I can handle this"
David did so, "You had better come out of this in one piece" running as Jake went to the source of the roar.
As the beast ran through the trees, a lone human, different from the last one it saw, stood there with determination, It roared, and the human's expression changed to a face of fear and began running away, the beast gave chase.
Jake ran to the storehouse and threw down the first pallet, the beast gave chase but stopped and waited for the pallet, breaking it in a single strike with it's giant claws. Jake ran to the window and vaulted it with haste, the beast gave chase and crashed through it, glaring at him as he looked over his shoulder. He had never ran harder, not even during his first trial, but he knew his friends would pull through for him.
1 generator activated...
...and another
...and the last one went off, the alarm blared and he knew he had to get to the gates.
He ran for it, using every pallet on the way there, he saw the others waiting for him, finally being able to smile as he got to the gates, he turned around and saw it, a bright orange fireball, which caught him square in the chest, he fell, hearing Felix shouting "NO!" and Yui screaming, he turned to them and yelled at them to leave and save themselves, they did, David mentally fighting himself before leaving.
The beast turned him around so that he was staring directly into it's hideous and drooling face, it opened it's mouth and tore out his throat before it's own ignited, that was the last thing he saw...
What do you guys think? I write as a hobby and I always try to get some practice and the concept of writing a DBD short story intrigued me, so I gave it a shot with a creation of my own
