A list of how killers were potentially intended to be played and countered.
((I will update this with new theories etc as they come))
Locking at the Killers' abilities, it would seem the trouble with them and their (presumably non-existent) counterplay lies in how they were conceptualized to be played and countered (aka the issue is with players who fail to learn how to play them)

Spirit: Given her powers, the intend seems to have been to stay in phasing as long as possible and only get out of it to strike and hook. Thus the intended counterplay is paying attention and being quiet, instead of rushing everywhere and everything.
Deathslinger: Similar to Spirit, he seems conceptualized as 'if he sees you, you're toast'. So again, the counterplay is stealth and resource management: Knowing when you can cleanse a totem, when you can work on a gen, etc and when you ought to hide.
