Odd observation with the current matchmaking

Here's something I observed when playing killer. i know mmr isn't on right now but:

I recently switch my build on Deathslinger to Switch, Gearhead, Whispers and Bloodhound, after running the 'M&A, whispers, bbq, switch' combo for a while. (like the new one better)


and i found that upon switching i (rank 16) was paired solely with rank 18-20. Upon switching back to my old build for a match, (same session) it was ranks all over the place again, and then back to rank 18-20 until i played a couple of matches with the new build.

Is that a weird coincidence or is that on purpose? Has anyone else tried switching up builds to see if it affects the matchmaking?
