Would a more strategically overhaul of the game really break it as badly as some naysayers insist?

Brought this up here and there, and always had one or two very loud naysayers insist it would completely break the game/make it 'a complete different game', but are they actually right:

Imagine the game would get an overhaul that would apply certain stats to the characters, like Repairing, Healing, etc. These stats could only be influenced with charms and items.

Like, if you have a survivor with a low healing stat, they'd be bad at healing themself or others as in they'd be slower and skill-checks there would be harder etc (unless they'd bring a med-kit or healing charm)

Likewise perks would be overhauled so that some would become charms etc, and not all would be available to everyone anymore.

Would a strategic approach really break the game the way some people claim it absolutely would, or would it make it more interesting to play?

  • Absolutely not. DbD as it currently stands is incredibly flawed and it’s not a secret, which is why they’re constantly adding onto it with every patch. I would certainly expect a huge overhaul to the game’s mechanics if a DbD2 was ever announced. However, a lot of things should stay so that the game holds onto its charm that keeps people reeled in.

The Survivor stats idea is thrown around a lot, and I’m totally on board with giving them unique traits, but not stat boosts. We don’t wanna create meta Survivors nor make them too predictable based on their character. We should hold onto this for a while until the Survivor’s base mechanics are redone.

Perks should stay about the same as they are now. It gives people the ability to mix and match different perks to create different playstyles and strategies. The issue they have now is that some perks are miles better than others. The strength of all of the perks should be flattened across the board, or so they compliment each other to be stronger.

  • I have a thread somewhere going into the ideas details, if you want to check it out.

I'm mostly weirdest out when people declare any such idea a 'lost cause' on account on it changing the game too drastically. (Would we even need dbd2? we could very well change the mechanics bit by bit. i mean, it happened before to my knowledge)

  • A lot of the changes suggested, this one included, are not very well thought out. For example, if you give survivors "stats" then... Well, there's a reason Blendette is so popular. People are, for lack of a better term, lazy pricks that will only want the strongest character.

An overhaul of DHD would be extremely unwelcome to most of the community. This broken, steaming pile of shite is the game that they fell in love with, the game that they ######### and moan and squabble over while playing several hours a week. As much as people say it's "drastically changed," it hasn't changed that much. The core is still there, it's just had the jagged edges ground down.
