The progression system, oh nelly...

For the past two weeks, I've been spending my time on DbD pouring all of my bloodpoints into Yui to get a solid build for her, consisting of Breakout, Any Means Necessary, Head On, and Blood Pact. It's meant to help the guy whose getting chased via bonking the Killer or lifting expired pallets.

Currently, I have everything I need... except Blood Pact.

It has been this way for almost a week and a half (of those two weeks). Not a single time has Blood Pact appeared in my bloodweb. However, the game seems very keen on giving me Adrenaline, or Inner Strength, or literally every other perk in the game that isn't Blood Pact. It's so aggravating spending all of my currency on one character for weeks on end just to feel satisfied. It's such a painful grind!

On that topic, I wanna brainstorm on how we could change the bloodweb and remove the grind/RNG.

Of course, the most blatant option is how it goes on the Mobile version, with the Bloodmarket and character progression. But even that doesn't feel very rewarding, and it's still a grind if you want certain perks but RNG disallows it.

To me, the ideal system is one where the perks you want are earned depending on how you play - a skill point system of some kind, using the four categories: Objective, Survival, Altruism, and Boldness for Survivors; or for Killers: Brutality, Deviousness, Hunter, and Sacrifice. This idea is pretty half-baked, but it works like this: you're awarded skill points in specific categories that you can use as currency to buy perks of the same category. For example, if you want to buy We'll Make It, then you'll need Altruism skill points. If you want to buy Barbecue & Chili, you'll need both Hunter and Sacrifice skill points. The amount depends on the strength and level of the perk.

...

I just went on a tangent. Jeez. That was not the point of this post, I assure you. I want to see what you, the reader, have to offer for a progression system in a game like Dead by Daylight. Share your ideas! Be as concise as possible!

  • While a long-term solution involving something more involved would be nice, a short-term solution is to make it not be a bunch of random nonsense. Why is it a bunch of random nonsense to begin with? Because that's how it started? It makes no sense. Maybe for items and add-ons, I guess, it's not very satisfying but at least those aren't permanent upgrades you're looking to get.

They really should just have the market concept from the mobile game, but even that's silly. Just have a list of all the different things you can spend blood points on, and make them cost more than they currently do since you're trading luck for guaranteed progress. You could even include ultra-rare items/add-ons in there, but maybe cap how many you can buy per week or something.

There are more sensible ways for all of this. Having it be this weird luck-based nightmare is one of the most bizarre and completely pointless and counterproductive design choices DBD has.

Agree, agree, agree! I think the Bloodmarket idea works alright for items and stuff as well, though there's always room for improvement.

The bloodweb exists now, and the golden question is... what should it evolve into?
