Camping is viable, but is it fun? Killers who do it why?

This thread isn’t to insult campers, or even discuss if it’s legit or bannable blah blah blah. Also this isn’t endgame camping because both sides can usually agree once doors are powered it may be the smarter move.

But people who down one person and stand there the entire game, even whole other gens are popped and the door opens WHY? Is it really fun for you? If it is then have at it but I can’t imagine “playing,” a game for 10 minutes but literally only 1 minute of it being actively doing something and the rest just standing in one spot.

I admit when I was brand new I thought a genius strategy as wraith was hook someone, go invisible and just stand there constantly rotating who you hooked. Obviously smart players, DS, BT and adrenaline make this a bad strategy quickly.

  • Is it just me, or is camping more common among players new to the game?

  • Camping has a lot of meanings you know...

Some players like to camp as killer either for a strategic reason: such as using the hooked survivor as bait for possible ambushes or traps (such as camping near the hooked survivors once the doors have been opened to get the rescuer down on the ground and trigger blood warden, you name it)

Other times killers camp indirectly or without consent: such as survivors playing poorly and therefore keeping the killer in close proximity to the hooked survivor (either that being around the basement's entrance or elsewhere)

There is the normal camping: where the killer gives no square crap about his rank but wants the specific person dead (presumably personal reasons)

And there is the forced camping: this forced camping is basically a sort of last defense against a derank in higher ranks (mostly due to the smartness of certain players, poor map pressure applied by the killer, etc). This type of camping I can personally understand, even though it isn't fun for both sides, it is the only ticket to some blood points and a safety net against deranking. "Don't hate the player, hate the game son"

  • Getting facecamped on Solo Q sucks especially when you are paired with potatoes that don't punish it. I have no qualms with other forms of 'camping'.

Killer coming back to a hook after an unhook isn't an issue to me.

  • I sometimes get complaints on Nurse for camping which is mostly because I move so damn slow its inevitable some form of lingering around the hook is going to happen especially when Survivors are lurking about and I can sense them with Whispers / Stridor. Also once leaving hook vicinity its really easy to return with a couple of blinks which is by design so not really my fault.

  • camping during the start of the match is dumb asf and i think its really boring just like why?

Midgame depends on the situation if you are noticing quick unhooks or you see two people with bbq but not the third then proxy camping is a ok idea again depends on the situation. This isnt as boring as start game as you have been learning how the survivors are playing and adpating to the situation.

Endgame all gens done and someone on hook.... yeah im not leaving the hook person its boring asf but what im suppose to do carry on patrolling when all gens are done and let you have a free unhook na im going to trade hooks if possible but it is boring asf.

So a key circumstance where a killer might camp is if they see two gens pop while a survivor is on the hook for a prolonged period of time. The killer might choose to punish the survivor's who push the gens by using that opportunity to wait out the remaining time on a survivor as oppose to rescuing so they have a better chance at controlling the remaining 3 survivors.

Oh yeah this too. Punishing survivors for "gens before friends". Camping to make sure the survivor progresses to the next stage if the survivor has been on the hook for a long time and still not been saved. Like if you leave them on the hook for over 30 seconds and a gen or 2 flies if Im closer to the hook than to the gen I might just go back to them to get a hook stage out of it. Sometimes a bit longer to also get a trade out of it if they are coming.

On another note, I just got ######### from a survivor (only one the others had either left or said gg wp) saying I never left the hook, because he could hear my terror radius all the time. We were playing on "The game".... I was lost looking for stairs xD.

Camping is like time, its relative! The flow of time is different for the person who is using the toilet and for the person who impatiently waits in front of the restroom. Same thing with camping! The person on the hook does interpret camping different then the killer or even other survivor.

There are different kinds of playstyles that people sum up as camping eventhough they have completly different intends and results.

    1) Classic Facecamping aka Bubbas realm:

    • Intent: To kill the person on the hook
    • Distance: "Smell their breath"-distance
    • Will leave the hook: When the survivor dies
    • Counter: DO the gens and leave, the person on the hook should waist as much time as possible!

    2) Close proximity patrolling aka I know people are not near the hook, but I will still patrol in 8m radius because I realy need this kill.

    • Intent: To kill the person on the hook
    • Distance: up to 8m and quick turning back
    • Will leave the hook: When the survivor dies
    • Counter: 3 People teamwork can save against most killer in the game - does not work on Bubba, Oni with power, Meyers with power, Plague with power

    3) Close proximity patrolling aka I saw you hidding and noone else on BBQ I will not leave because I have nowhere to go

    • Intent: To hunt a different person but without gifting them a free unhook, because you are not obligated to do so at all
    • Distance: up to 8m and quick turning back
    • Will leave the hook: When there is a new survivor to hunt and NO clicking flashlight 30m away then tbag and then imidiantly start running away will NOT motivate to leave, if you want an exhange the come close enough to be considered an offering to leave the hook, because you need to understand that the time is running for the killer you will need to interfere eventually so do it right away
    • Counter: Over the killer a chase alternative, most killer will happily accept gameplay instead of hookpatroling, but like I said before dont BM, dont flashlight click, dont Tbag! This will not motivate but just make the killer more angry not to leave you a free unhook.

    4) Far proximity patrolling aka I saw that you are near the hook, but I am feeling great today so I will gift you the unhook and hunt the one who unhooked

    • Intent: Gift the survivor the unhook eventhough it is not the most effective thing to do at all and then hunt the unhooker
    • Distance: The closest thing to do aka the closest gen to kick the closest pallet to break
    • Will leave hook: already did leave, but will return for the person who unhooked
    • Counter: DONT hide, if the killer returns and there is only the injured person from the hook this will be his target, if you saved then take the responsibility and play with the killer instead of farming your teammate!

    5) Leaving the hook but person gets unhooked so I return aka I was not camping you are just impatient

    • Intent: Hunt people, you are vault that you dont allow the killer to leave!
    • Distance: variable
    • Will leave hook: already did leave, but had to return because its the closest save survivor top hunt
    • Counter: dont unhook while in heartbeat or while not in chase

    6) I was hunting that one person who discided to go near the hook and then start using the loops around the hook aka ######### should I do? Just leave? May I maybe go serve you some cold drings when you unhook for free?

    • Intent: Hunting the person
    • Distance: Close to the prey
    • Will leave the hook: already did, you just brought the killer back to the hook
    • Counter: Dont bring the person near the hook

Doing the first kind of camping aka "Classic Facecamping aka Bubbas realm" is bad at any situation and I have no excuse for that! EVERY other kind of "camping" has his place in the game and is not only viable but even CRUCIAL to do under some circumstances if you want to win the game. 4-6 is not camping, people calling this camping just experience it this way because its from they perspective. 3 is viable thing to do because you are not obligated to give a free unhook, survivor do not gift you a gen nore do they offer them selfs to be hooked when the doors are open at the end of the day.

2 is also viable especially if you are defending survivor and a gen or a gate in the same time or the gates are open and this is the only thing to do to get a kill! Survivor often demand that you leave the hook and start hunting a different person BUT the person that is offering himself as the prey does not give you a fair chance to get him, he has several second chance perks and an opned gate very close and even then there are 3 other survivor with flashlights and pallets ready to save him. You are the killer, you need to kill, the person that you will kill with the highest chance is the person on the hook, leaving the hook without an advantage to hook the next person is stupid and should not be done if you want to win.

So about your question if it makes fun, it depends! I never tried 1, but 2 does not make fun, because 3 survivor are stronger then 1 killer and if they play right they WILL save the survivor and escape all 4. 3-6 is not camping, just normal gameplay in the eyes of every killer outthere the survivor are self inflicting it upon themselves. So 3-6 is just normal gameplay for killer and does make fun.

∆this is by far the best summary of all camping types. I personally play 3-6.

Additionally there is the timing thing in the state of progression.

At start - useless, unnecessary, toxic and boring

After catching a toxic surv in the middle - re-toxic, not necessary and enjoyment depends on mood

Egc aka open doors - not toxic and probably the most efficient strategy at this point.
