In-depth rework of The Trapper's Power and his Addons

Hello there. Like many others out there I am a huge fan of The Trapper. I have several hundred hours played in just him alone. Many years ago, when there were only 3 killers, he was considered the best of the 3 killers. Back when infinites were truly infinites, The Trapper was the only killer able to shut those locations down.

Then time passed, Survivors and Maps were brought down in power, more Maps were released, Killers with increasingly stronger powers were released. Many Killers received reworks to increase their strength. Over time, poor old Trapper was largely forgotten by BHVR. Why play him when you can ignore pallets with Nurse? Or snipe Survivors from range with Huntress and Deathslinger? Or just grab them off gens with Spirit or Ghostface? Or constantly zip around the map with Billy or Freddy?

BECAUSE TRAPPER IS FUN, DAMN IT!

You’ve probably seen the same old changes proposed for years. “Just increase his base trap carrying capacity” or “Let him pick up traps from lockers”. They’re all great ideas but they’ve never been implemented. So I wanted to try to come up with a different idea. Maybe this has been done before, I’m not sure. It’s slightly inspired by Freddy’s Dream Snare and Doctor’s Snap Out Of It. Here it is!

POWER: DARK TRAP

Press and hold the Power button to place a Dark Trap at the target location. The Trapper begins the match with 2 charges of his power. Placing a Dark Trap consumes 1 charge. Charges take 16 seconds to restore. Only a maximum of 5 Dark Traps may exist at one time.

Survivors caught in a Dark Trap become injured and are temporarily immobilized. The Trapper is able to pick up Survivors who are caught in a Dark Trap. Survivors remain trapped until they complete the Escape Trap action or are freed by another Survivor. Survivors can also perform the Disarm Trap action to destroy a Dark Trap.

Power Information

  • The default Placement time of a Dark Trap is 3 seconds.
  • The default Placement range of a Dark Trap is 4 meters. (Leaving this range while actively placing a Dark Trap will not cancel the placement action)
  • The Trapper is slowed to 92% movement speed while placing a Dark Trap.
  • Placing a Dark Trap displays a visible animation at the target location.
  • Placing a Dark Trap while the current maximum amount of placed traps has been reached will cause the oldest trap to disarm.
  • Dark Trap has a 3 second cooldown after it has been used.
  • The default Disarm time for a Dark Trap is 3 seconds.
  • Disarmed traps are destroyed and removed from the map.
  • The Escape Trap action takes 12 seconds to perform. (6 seconds if performed by another survivor)
  • Survivors are faced with 2 skill checks while attempting to escape or rescue another Survivor.
  • Each failed skill check causes Escape Trap progress to regress by 25%
