Can luck be made half-decent?
I've always enjoyed the idea of luck in DbD but as is obvious to everyone, it is crap. I wanted to make this just to see other people's thoughts were on making luck at least decent.
I'll try to start this discussion by throwing my idea out there. I never really touched luck all that much in my time playing DbD, but when I did I looked up luck on DbD wiki to see what it even did and the description said that luck only applies to actions that have the possibility to fail (escaping the hook and bear traps). When I read this it immediately made me think of skill checks. Sure they're not an action in and of themselves, but they randomly occur while doing important actions and skill checks can fail. I think that the first step to making the joke that luck is half-decent is by having luck give you a higher chance at triggering skill checks.
This means that luck will mix rng that makes games exciting, with skill that rewards players for hitting their great skill checks. A good mix of luck and skill is what games need to feel exciting and make the players feel good, about themselves and at the game. This change would buff perks like autodidact and this is not happening, but also make you weak against killers whose powers involve skill checks (pig, doc, etc). So using a luck build with this change is a neat risk/reward situation!
But because luck could now possibly negatively affect teammates, up the ante should probably be changed if this happens (I thought each stack would now add +4 or 5% to your luck instead of what is now only +3% luck, but it only applies to you?). I know that this luck change affects a very few amount of perks and killers, but this change would open up the way for new, interesting, and exciting skill check-based perk ideas!!!
Anyways, this was probably a waste of my time, and I know it might not make luck high tier, but I think a step in the right direction and if it interests anyone then let's talk about it!
Thank you for listening to my Ted-Talk
