The recent patch did not nerf Pyramid Head. It buffed him.

In case you missed it:

  • PH can no longer see the auras of cages
  • If PH stands within 5 meters of a cage for 1 second the cage will teleport away to a different location

I've been playing PH for a little while now, even managed to P3 him 2 days after the DLC dropped, and let me tell you that this change was a really bad attempt at a nerf.

First off, the cage will always send the survivor to furthest side of the map. With enough game knowledge you already knew where the survivor is going to be headed and the removal of the auras is only really an issue on maps with multiple floors.

Second, the teleporting cages. Supposedly meant to discourage PH camping the cages, it does anything but. His ranged attack can hit from 8 meters at base. Even longer with range with add-ons. Meaning he can just as easily hit people going for the save without the cage going away. And furthermore, if he happens to catch people trying to go for the save, and the cage timer is getting low, he can guard the cage until 5-10 seconds before death and then deliberately send the cage away. Almost guaranteeing that no one will be able to save them in time and saving him the extra seconds that he otherwise would have had to spend ensuring the caged person's death.

I'm honestly confused how this "nerf" was even considered as such.

  • That's by no way a buff for him. If you cage a survivor on the middle of the map, you're screwed. And relocating the cage to prevent a save is very situational. Most of the times you don't have the time to reach it before the save because of how safe it is for survivor to save from cages. Before the nerf you could just use your M2 attack and hit the 2 survivors at once. That's even better that teleporting the cage. It's definetely a nerf that makes cages even more situational.

Unless you somehow down a survivor smack-dab in the centre of the map, it's usually easy to tell where they're being sent. I really don't see how you're "screwed" just because you don't know exactly where the survivor is.

The cage relocation is situational, yes. But before this change it wasn't even an option. Now it's another tool that PH has in his arsenal.

You can literally still down both people when they are performing a cage save. Just stand back at least 5 meters, which is a tiny distance, and smack them with your power. Get the timing down and it's like this change never even happened.

    It's definitely a buff.

  • It'll create different tacticsbfor Pyramid Head and, in a way, gives him more map pressure with the ability to basically send a survivor all around the map, providing they know the spawn points. Looking where survivors head will give the position away sometimes.

I don't necessarily see it as a buff, but I agree it's not really a nerf, unless it's used by tunnelers who don't remember where the cages are. It's more of a shift in the power; promoting a more efficient way of playing and more in-game tactics, but without the obvious prompted silhouette that used to stand out.
