The Problem With Disconnection Penalty

We've all had those matches that can get unbelievably frustrating. Sometimes the game can be quite difficult to enjoy, due to the current amount of bugs and honestly, just the way that other fellow players can play.

Does this warrant a disconnect from the game? No, it should not. Whether the game is frustrating or not, as a survivor it's only fair to try for your fellow teammates to finish the match; win or lose. And as a killer, it's not a good way to learn by just giving up.

However, there are things outside of a person's control. Thunderstorms, construction accident, a random black out in the players grid.. granted, the disconnection penalty starts off at a minimum in these cases. But why have the penalty at all?

I understand that players abusing the disconnection without punishment was at an all time high previous to it being added, but honestly.. it feels like a punishment rather than enjoyment to play the game the way it is right now. And that is a shame.

Games are meant to be fun, and Dead by Daylight certainly has great potential for being fun. As a killer or survivor, I play as both. I have well over 1500 hours in this game and I can confidently say I've disconnected intentionally less than 5 times.

The game has a lot of bugs, and a lot of exploits still as well. I feel the game needs to be more balanced before adding a punishment system such as the one now. For instance, there was a killer that locked me in a corner that I was trying to hide in so I could get hatch, all other survivors died. The match was quite long already as there was one gen left, and each survivor was hooked 3 times. It was fun right up to the point I was trapped for 20 minutes before i finally disconnected. I had no choice, but i was punished regardless. I took the 5 minute time out with a grain of salt, but this is bound to happen again.

Of course I reported the player for taking the game hostage, but did they face a punishment for their action? I won't know. All I know is, I think the game should focus on its countless bugs and exploits before handing out slaps on the wrist for the cases that disconnecting is sometimes the only option, or an actual accident.

Thanks
