Perk overhaul idea

Pretty long text so TL,DR at the bottom

So i think we can all agree that the perks in this game varry massivly in terms of use and power. DS is something you see every game while you see something like Hope once in a blue moon

Now we could try to rework and buff/nerf all perks untill they are around the same level but that feels like a fool's errand

There are also a couple of perks that are very situational but actually pretty strong when they work. Something like Lightborn or Mad grit. These perks could be the difference between getting a hook or not getting it. And in a heavy momentum based game like this that could very well mean the difference between a win and a loss

The thing is these situation don't come up nearly often enough to validate a perk slot and you'll find a lot of perks fit this. There are a lot of perks that actually give a nice effect but not enough to give up that precious perk slot

So what if we got rid of perk slots entirely and replace it with perk points instead. While seperating the perks in different rarity's and how many perk points it takes

For example let's say you have 12 points in total and something like PGTW would be a purple perk then that cost 3 perk points. But things like bloodhound, beast of prey and unrelentless would be yellow perks costing 1 point each so you could run those 3 instead of PGTW for the same amount of space. Or maybe Hunter's lullaby which could be 2 points and Mad Grit that could be 1 point.

Now i understand that this would be a huge overhaul and would take probably months to years of testing but i feel it would be a pretty good way to make the weaker perks used more and open up a lot more builds we could test around with.

What do you guys think? Hate the idea? Love the idea? Like it but don't think it's worth the effort to implement it in the game? Let me know what you think!

TL,DR : replace perk slots with perk points were stronger perks require more points then weaker ones to open up more viarity in builds and make the weaker perks more favorable

  • Honestly it would help a lot with the devs obsession with niche situational perks. If they really really want to keep putting outbperks so situational no one will use them they'd have to change to this. Alternatively I'd honestly prefer that they really think about a focus for perks. I do feel perks are more of a killer issue than a survivor one though. There are a LOT of interesting survivor builds. They are still putting out interesting and good survivor perks if this chapter is anything to go by. Info perks, chase perks, stealth perks, perks that are used to cover a killers weakness. Instead of making these odd niche one in a million use perks and keep perks focused on things that happen regularly with focused intents. What do killers do frequently? What interesting changes to that behaviour can you encourage with new perks? What ways can you reward someone for participating in different behaviour. It's seems like the devs are way too focused on finding ways for perks to punish behaviour instead of encourage behaviour.

It would indeed be nice if we got a couple of focus perks

I wouldn't mind a new killer perk that isn't really flashy but just straightforward and simply improving something killers do anyway
