Can We Have SFX Added to "Beckon" Gesture for Survivors?

Most of us have been through this situation: an injured Survivor is running away from you and is unaware of your presence. You want to get their attention, but using the beckon gesture is not the answer because A) if they have not seen you yet then they will not see you now, and B) you have to stop moving for the full animation to play which only adds more distance between you two.

Clicking a flashlight is handy in this situation because of the noise it can make, but not everyone is carrying a flashlight at all times. Everyone has access to the gesture system, but it is lacking sound to grab others' attention.

Adding sound to the beckon gesture seems to be the answer and, hopefully, this is as simple as playing the Snap Fingers sound effect (wake Survivor up) when the beckon gesture is used. Granted, there is more to consider:

  • The snapping sound is part of a bigger sound file that includes snapping and clapping and will have to be trimmed and saved as a separate file.
  • Killers are already frustrated by Survivors who spam the flashlight clicking.
    • Do you make the beckoning sound effect inaudible to Killers? (Survivors would have to resort to the standard loud noise notifications to get the Killer's attention.)
    • Do you put a cooldown on the sound effect to prevent spamming? (Would also help Survivors who do not want to hear the spam either.)
    • Do Killers simply have to deal with it just like with flashlight clicks?
  • Does the beckon animation need to change to better match the fingers snapping or does a new sound effect needed to be chosen entirely? (For example, a "Psst!" that would not require additional animation; or perhaps another sound that is unaffected by race, gender, or age.)

While it would make sense for this change to be low priority (because it is up to the injured Survivor to occasionally look behind them for help and for better situational awareness), it would also help bridge the gap between solo queue and Survive With Friends groups who use voice chat to avoid this situation altogether.

Comments

  • "Psst" for beckon and "Shh" for point. Only Survivors can hear these. Sound effect has a 10 second cooldown.

I stop healing a Survivor because of Spine Chill. Other Survivor doesn't know why and tries to get my attention, only to bring the killer over to both of us. If only I could have shhsh'd and pointed.
