if you could have changed anything in dbd during its development what would it be?

basically i had a thought. what if i was on the development team and could have had something added or changed at any point and what would it be? what would your idea be?

my idea would be survivor passives, something to give each survivor a unique identity other than appearance but of course a passive on top of 4 perks would be to strong or would force a limit to the power of the passives so in exchange i would make it so survivors had only 3 perk slots on top of the passive and the passive would be themed to the survivor and the teachables whilst being good enough on their own

i have have come up with some ideas for the basic 4 survivors Dwight, Meg, Claudette and Jake

Dwight passive: Inspired

Dwight will have a 10% bonus speed to repair, healing and sabo this effect is disabled if another survivor is hooked additionally for every sacrificed/dead survivor dwight will have a -10% speed to repair, healing and sabo

the idea is that dwight is at his best when his team is at there best however as he losses teammates he becomes less proficient at everything and yes multiple dwight's will be good so long as no one is on the hook or dead the moment someone is the other dwight's lose there passive and will only have 3 perks to support them and when 2 of them are dead the remaining dwight's will be a hindrance so 1 Dwighty leader would be enough

Meg passive: Acceleration

Meg accelerates 50% faster

it sounds simple but when a survivor go's from standing still to running it takes 1 second to go from 0 to 100% movement speed or 4.0 meters per second but the 50% bonus applies to all acceleration so it also includes vault recovery and fall recovery you know when you fall or valt you take a bit to get running again you are still moving but not at max speed and because of this passive you will get moving faster this passive also applies to burst of speed effects like getting hit, sprint burst, lithe etc.. basically if you are not moving at max speed you will do it twice as fast over other survivors.

Claudette passive: Carer

Claudette gains 3% faster movement/healing/unhooking speed when an injured/hooked/downed survivor is within 20 meters this effect stacks for each unique survivor who enters this range, the stacks will persist and will linger for as long as an injured/hooked/downed survivor is in range and for 20 seconds if not, the timer refreshes as long as an injured/hooked/downed survivor is in range, the passive is disabled if Claudette is injured

this passive is grate for altruistic players or against anti heal killers and the more proactive the Claudette is running from survivor to survivor the the better the benefit you can go from healing 1 survivor getting the 3% bonus and the running to another hooked survivor getting the 6% bonus upon entering range it may not seem like a grate power but it stacks up against anti heal killers as long as the claudette is stealthy which she is good at

Jake passive: Survivalist

Jake gains 5% item efficiency based on the lower quality of the item (ultra rare = 5% common = 25%) if Jake enters a match without an item equipped he will start with a unique medkit, toolkit or flashlight of common rarity. the survival salve (medkit), pocket pack (toolkit) and the penlight (flashlight) they work just like there common counterpart items but he won't keep them at the end of the match to prevent stockpiling

jake is meant to be the rugged survivalist and when i think of survivalist i think of all the small stuff they carry with them minny generators, water purifiers that sort of thing but also how they use their resources efficiently jakes perks promote a more opportunistic playstyle so giving him better use for items will make him more flexible.

these are the ideas i have come up with so far if i could have changed anything during development but i am more interested on hearing what you guys can come up with it does not have to be anything as game changing or complex as what i cooked up.

Comments

  • Better optimization. Unreal Engine from the beginning, and people that know how to use pointers.

  • I like the idea of passives, it would just be difficult to make them equally attractive in order to have a variety of Survivors during matches.

I would take a look at instant-down killers as a whole. To me, it just feels cheap that the killer just has to stare at you in order to down you once or in the case of Billy, Zoom zoom up to you and insta-saw you down.
