Additional Level Up System
I've always been one for level up systems.. and I really love the Dead by Daylight leveling system/prestige system. Currently, you can level up your survivors and killers, as well as your account in general. An idea came up in my mind: What if there was a leveling system for perks?
So, I'm going to split this Discussion into separate categories:
1) Balanced?
2) Rewards
3) Level Up System
4) Reasoning?
5) Additional Information
Balanced?
I'm going to start off with this, because frankly, I know a lot of people after reading "leveling system for perks" are already freaking out. I'd like to start off with saying: Leveling up something doesn't necessarily mean it has to be buffed. Rather than buffing the perk, I'd rather there be a cosmetic difference to the perk icon.
Rewards
For the cosmetic difference that I mentioned, a simple change in the background color of the perk would be satisfying to me. If we think of it as the current prestige system, after reaching Level 50 with a perk, the perk will prestige and revert back to Level 1. For Prestige 1, the background can change into a shiny bronze background, Prestige 2 a shiny silver background, Prestige 3 a shiny gold background, and for Prestige 3 Level 50, a prism-colored background. Though the change isn't that significant, it could be something fun to try and progress.
Level Up System
The system could be a little complex. First off, I'd like to see level ups for perks be survivor/killer specific, meaning that you'll have a different level for a perk depending on who you're playing. The reasoning for this is to encourage killers to try a variety of perks on different killers, or to encourage survivors to unlock the teachable perks. It would also encourage people to prestige their survivors and killers if you could only prestige a perk to the level of prestige that corresponding survivor/killer is currently at. Perk levels will remain untouched when a survivor or killer is prestiged. For how to level up perks, it should be dependent on your efforts throughout a match and the result of the match. I'd also like it to be dependent on the amount the specific perk is used, but I can understand that it could prove difficult to incorporate. There should also be a number somewhere on each perk indicating their level.
Reasoning?
The reasoning for this system isn't much more than just an additional thing for completionists like myself to strive to complete. However, I think the system could also cause killers and survivors to make more diverse decisions when choosing perks. Though the developers have done a much better job at fixing the issue of overused perk builds through perk changes and the addition of new perks, I think it could provide more diversity when it comes to perk selection.
