Gen Pressure Still Needs Address; A Solution
I like the direction of the meta currently. Toolbox rework makes sense. Sabotage looks like it's going to be a legitimate strategy without being overpowered (if they adjust the sabo time a bit).
But one thing that is still an issue is gen speed. It currently just goes too fast. This has been an issue for a while.
I know some liked Scott Jund's idea of the Trial Warmup. But I don't think that properly addresses the overall issue of gen pressure.
Sure it will give a killer snowball potential without dealing with gens for a minute or so, but that isn't the problem. If you want that you run Corrupt Intervention.
Here is my proposition;
All generators will now require 100 seconds of repair time for a single survivor, as opposed to 80. However, at 50% progress (50 seconds) the gen requires a Replacement Part.
A small threshold on the progress bar will indicate where the repair progress will end. After hitting this point, repair will end and any repair actions will do nothing.
Replacement Parts are passively gathered when a chest is searched. Along with the base items obtained, it will also give the survivor a Part. When the Chest is searched, it can be searched for new parts again after 60 seconds. The Chest will then be closed but creaked open a bit, indicating it has no item but contains a part.
When a survivor with a part interacts with the Gen, it will provide a minigame. There will be a circle and success zones like a skill check, but the selection bar moves slowly and there are multiple zones. Hitting zones will cause the bar to move faster and the zones left to shrink smaller. There are about 10 zones to hit. If all are hit, the part is installed. If one is missed, the selection bar will stop, reset, and proceed again at it's original speed, slowing down progress but not resetting installation.
Skill checks are on the outside of the zones. Hitting one will result in a speed boost greater than a good zone. This helps complete it faster but may cause you to miss more easily. For each Great Check you hit, it adds an additional 1% progress to the generator after you install the part. For every miss for a zone, subtract 2% progress. At three misses, the part is broken and another one has to be installed.
Other survivors can help by using the repair action while a part is being installed. This will slow the selection bar, which reduces the speed if installation but allows easier hitting of great checks. Stacks with each survivor.
Once the part is installed, repairs proceed as normal. But after it's installed, the generator cannot regress under 50%. Current perks will not affect this regression. So if you use pop and the gen has a part installed at 51%, it will only reduce it to 50%.
The killer can interrupt part installation. If a part is not installed, the gen will regress to 0%. If one is being installed but is canceled, the killer can hit the gen and break the part, forcing survivors to find a new part.
Toolboxes can be used to install the part, decreasing the amount of zone successes necessary (depending on rarity) to install it at the cost of a % of it's remaining charges.
My hope is that with such a change, we can see an improvement in gameplay by requiring more out of both killer and survivor. Killers are punished harder for letting gens fly with the Part acting as a "Gen Checkpoint" but it also pads out the game and forces Survivors to spend more time per generator, having requirements to complete it wholly.
