Campfire Plaza
First things first - this is prolly a really stupid idea. But hey, might as put it out there and see....
Ok, so we have dedicated servers. Each server has a specific group of people signed in.
How about letting these people congregate at the Campfire Plaza while waiting for a lobby. Imagine an MMORPG, top-down view. It can be low graphics and have a population limit (100, 300, 500, 1,000 players?). Limit exceeded? Load into a parallel plaza.
You can all these other killers and survivors standing around, changing as the players choose different characters and cosmetics and such. Walk up to one and see if they want to SWF with you. Chat with each other. “Hey, are you that nurse that just devastated us at cold wind?”
Throughout this wait time, you see various characters get snatched up by Entity legs and pulled into the sky. This is them finding a lobby.
This would provide some entertainment while waiting. Maybe the chat feature is a bad idea considering the reputation of this community, but the rest could still provide at least a little something to do. At the very least, you can show off your cosmetics to a greater audience!

Probably a little over the top in regards to the plaza, but a global chat for your region to find SWF would actually be pretty neat to see.
