Gen Times and Game Balance Suggestion
With Ruin now a specialty perk and large maps still a problem for low mobility killers, especially in the early game, there are serious deficiencies in killer viability and survivor enjoyment.
Killer mains don't want to rely on a two or three select killers who can get the job done to the detriment of all others. They want to have a fun time, try out different builds on different killers, and still have a competitive game.
Survivor mains don't want to just hold M1 and click space for the entire game. They don't want to sit there as the killer tries to engage in a chase, only for the first two gens to pass by without engaging the enemy. It isn't fun, and it costs survivors the opportunity for bloodpoints.
Enter my proposed solution: early game gen delay.
Now, I know what you're thinking: everyone's proposed that pre-nerf Ruin should be inherent to all killers. This isn't that.
This suggestion is as follows.
At the start of the match, all gens progress at -25% their normal speed. It's a significant slowdown, but it isn't a permanent one. For every thirty seconds that pass, the gen progression speed increases by 5%. If a killer injures a survivor, the progression speed increases by 5%. This caps out at a +25% bonus to progression speed. After 60 seconds at its maximum, the progression speed once again falls by 5% for every 30 seconds until it reaches the standard progression speed.
Furthermore, once the first generator is completed, this progression speed automatically resets to its standard amount for the rest of the game.
This has four main effects.
- Killers have more time to reach survivors in the early game before a generator is popped.
- Survivors have more reason to pursue other objectives in the early game while their progression speed bonus builds.
- Survivors are encouraged to take advantage of the progression speed by leaving gens at 99% and moving to another one, providing the killer with the opportunity to damage gens, chase moving survivors, and apply pressure.
- This actually makes the new Ruin a viable counter-strategy to 99ing gens, providing it with more than a niche use once again.
Feel free to criticize my concept or complain about the state of the game. Just be kind about it.

This is pretty well thought out but I'm concerned about the killer getting away with camping while the gens are slowed for a free kill. Maybe dying on hook is also slower during this time?
Well, if the killer has downed the survivor, then that's already an increase of 10%. Assuming it took them one minute to do so on larger maps or with stealthier survivors, then that's an increase of 20%. Thirty more seconds, and the survivors are back to standard progression speed. That makes it completely unreasonable to camp as the speed will only increase past standard as the killer is camping, making the mid and late game more challenging for them.
