Camping

Camping is a word that will always stir up feelings of rage and anger across all games. Dead by Daylight is no exception to this rule. The majority of players detest camping to the point of having a whole vocabulary about defensive killers (camping, camper, hard camping, soft camping, face camping, and to some patrolling.)

This being said there are some things we all need to understand. The first and foremost point you need to understand is that "camping is not a bannable offense". I understand that joining a match for a good game only to be camped sucks. However, there's a reason why people camp and intriguing counterplay to camping.

The very beginning of camping was created by Dead by Daylight's game director Mathieu Cote. The earliest mention of this is seen in the third developer diary. The quote is said at 3:05

After the game was released players realized that bloodpoints were a great incentive for players and since an unhook grants 1500 bloodpoints hooked players were excellent bait. Eventually the devs even added in a perk for camping that we'd come to know of as Insidious (https://deadbydaylight.gamepedia.com/Insidious).

So killers can camp to ensure a kill and sometimes get free survivors, but what can you do to counter camping?

First-off, don't be an (explicitve). If you run around teabagging the killer and repeatedly blind them all match it shouldn't come as a surprise when they camp you. In the event you just joined a trial and you are bring camped without having provoked the killer there are still things you can do.

If you just want to go play a match and don't care about your team then just attempt multiple self-unhooks to speed up the sacrifice process. When prompted to mash space, don't. You will die in roughly 30 to 40 seconds and be on to your next match.

If you do care about your team, then start waving your arms by attempting to escape without actually filling the channel. This is a universally accepted signal that the killer is nearby. Next you need to buy as much time as you can. Camping only works for killers if survivors attempt a rescue. By telling your allies that the killer is by you they can do generators and escape. This will unfortunately result in your death but it will de-pip the killer. Besides you gain Lightbringer points for each generator activated while you're alive.

If you find yourself being camped or in the presense of campers alot then there are perks you can use.

Kindred can help your allies coordinate a rescue or an escape: https://deadbydaylight.gamepedia.com/Kindred

Borrowed Time gives your camped allies hit protection when you rescue them: https://deadbydaylight.gamepedia.com/Borrowed_Time

However, it should be noted that the devs are planning on adding Kindred to survivors at base, probably just tier two, but the complainers can dream.

In summary, camping is here and it's here to stay. Use your perks and your wits and you'll either die or escape as a hero.

And for the love of Dwight, stop complaining.
