On Deep Wound and mending - what if...
Now that mending time is much shorter and Deep Wound timer stops both when mending and running while being decoupled from terror radius, it's obvious that the DW status effect is more of an annoyance than a real trouble for survivors.
Take this example: Legion hits you, then goes on to hit other survivors. You mend to 99%, preventing the timer to go down, and wait for Legion to be outside your TR / end their FF, to avoid being spotted again. Now you can finish your mending and everything is fine.
Proposed change
How can we make the DW effect more dynamic for a survivor POV, and more rewarding for a killer? I propose three possible changes (obviously pick just one).
- Mending needs to be completed in one single go, like Snapping Out for Doc. It's quick and easy enough (no skill checks...) to not be a problem when the killer is not around, but the change can be very interesting if the killer sticks around - you now are really a ticking bomb, but a skilled survivor can still work around it.
- While in DW a survivor is on the edge! So: while in DW the survivor hears a constant terror radius like if the killer is just behind them. Again, not a problem if the player is aware of its surrounding, but could lead to wrong decisions (e.g. fast vaults, dropping pallets, wasting time running far away etc)
- While in DW a survivor attention is all on its wounds! While in DW the survivor is affected by the Oblivious status effect. Basically the opposite of point 2, now the survivors could end up in a false sense of security, leading them to lower their alert and helping the killer to sneak out on them if so they wish.
I personally would prefer to see what happens with the second proposition, but I like the third one as well. The first one seems to me a bit too much on the lazy side, possibly swinging between totally useless and exploitable in certain loops.
What do you think?
Comments
I actually love idea 1. Idea 3 could be too powerful, but idea 2 is a great addition. These changes would make DW viable and not just a little itch that you can choose not to scratch.
I don't play Legion anymore because of how weak they are with their power, since their power kind of hinders their ability to get downs and hooks. Every other killer's ability helps them in some way, even if it's not offensive (clown, plague in some instances, hag) But Legion's ability makes it harder for them to win.
The FF stab gives a survivor a speed boost that comes from a normal hit, but now perks dont work with the FF stab because it doesn't count as a normal M1. So there's almost no reason to use FF, since as it is now, survivors dont even really need to worry about mending until its almost down to 0. They can even work on generators while the timer goes down.
Idea 1 would make Legion a lot scarier to go against. The Doctor's "snap out of it" must be done in one go, and nobody complains about that. The only difference is theres no timer on that one and it wont make you go down on its own. The use of insanity is for tracking, which can have the same effect as a DW timer (the killer will find + down the survivor) if left alone for long enough.
Maybe i'm rambling with my support for this, but you have my vote!
