  • 10x worse than before MMR.

OK it's not every game, but I would say 95% of games now are just against sweaty, gen-rush, flash light abusing survivors who then feel the need to taunt you about it.

But I've decided to now just have fun and not play the game 'seriously' (and to not play their game); I don't camp and no point chasing them so once I see the team is like this I just go stand somewhere or run around randomly, and don't bother giving them the attention. Maybe even lead them to some gens. I end up having fun (and it spoils their game as they get less BP and less fun from being toxic trolls because I'm not chasing them). Then just LOL when you get the occasional sad acts who still Tea bag you after that even though you are clearly no longer playing the game as its meant to be played.

PLUS, you even get the odd friendly survivors who appreciate what you're doing and you end up having a good time :)

So wait, you have less than 10 hours overall and except the system to be able to give you correct matchmaking?

You know that most systems start player of at a mid ranking? For example in online chess you start with an elo of 1500 as a new player and from there have to play many matches to get were you belong (with the top sitting at roughly 2700-2800 in this example).

From my point of view it seems that behaviour did the same instead of starting new player at 0.

This would also explain your situation sitting in the middle of the elo and getting matched with people above and below in a certain rang.

Btw league of legends does something similar. You have to play your account up to level 30 to give the system a rough estimate and then can join ranked queue where you get also matched with people above and below you to finally triangulate your rank.

This post is spot on, well said good explanation of an MMR/ELO system.

I’ve experience exactly the same thing as Raptorietz - Id always played survivor since joining DBD in August 2020. Worked up to yo-yo-ing between Rank 4 and 5 before deciding two weeks ago to try Killer. Knowing the game from survivor I found transition at Killer ranks 19 and 20 OK, was getting 3 or 2 kills a game regularly.

Then came this new MMR and my first Killer games yesterday… played four games as Killer: two were OK (two kills in both) but the other two I was completely destroyed by the survivors.

very frustrating but bringing it back to the ELO point raised by burt0r: my killer hours are minimal, so the ELO ranking has nothing to go off, just a small sample of games. But this point about all starting in the middle is right: you’ll get games against everyone at the start before it evens out and we find our ability place (you have to start everyone from the same position in a new system for it to be unbiased). So the more we play, the fairer the games will be as the system has more samples to work off to calculate what our current level is and match us off with others. In a way it’s a bit like the concept of regression to the mean.

so yeah, frustrating for now but stick with it and it should become better.

  • I have the exact same problem as you! It’s ok, you are not alone with your rank identity confusion lol.

So I think I have a good understanding of the game, how to earn pips and in ability to read the game/make decisions but when it comes to killer chases, against rank 5 and below I’m fine, but against red ranks I feel completely outmatched. I’ve got to Rank 4 (highest 4.2, I think) but these days I just yoyo between Ranks 4 and 5... drop a pip when up against red ranks but then regain it when I go against purple (or below).

Maybe it’s due to killer ability to chase/read plays and having had more experience if they are red? (Idk, I’ve not played killer before).

That said, I’m Trying to stop myself caring too much about rank and just enjoy the game.

But, it does sound like we are on the cusp of red... here for you my fellow rank-identity-crisis friend!

  • This isn't a post regarding Trickster, but toxic behaviour in general - admittedly I have never seen much of it, but did today to its full effect.

To provide context, I am a Rank 4 survivor - I'm not the greatest, but I like to think I am fairly good at this game and know how it works fairly well. Played a game with my mate today and two other random survivors. None of us escaped, we got 4 gens done. I had a bang average game I would say - did a gen, rescued someone, resulted in a safety pip. But the level of abuse I got afterwards was insane. Somehow the team 'losing' was all my fault (it wasn't, IMO - and I'm the first to hold my hands up when I have a bad game), I was insulted for my supposed sh*t performance and being R4 (IMO Rank isn't all that important, but when its coming from two players who were Ranks 9 and 11...), insults thrown at me because I didn't find the hatch and the killer knew where I was, and one vaguely racist insult (despite them not knowing my ethnicity).

It was just one of those games, I performed bang average and we didn't perform well as a team - you move on. But the level of insults is insane. Why attack a fellow player, and why take it to such extremes. Pardon my language, but its f*cking pathetic. Its a computer game at the end of the day!

I've got a thick skin, but such behaviour is so pathetic. I just wish there was a way to report toxic behaviour as it really can spoil a good game.

That said - my thanks and appreciation to all of you out there who make this game a pleasurable experience.

  • Hey all -

Some examples of this in action. First two games, both played this afternoon... both get two golds and a bronze (7 points, which I understand is a safety at my rank?). Yet in the first game I de-pip and in the later game played about 40 minutes later and get a safety...

Third one, played back on Thursday... would love to know what is going on there!!!

  • Hi! New on the forum.

Just to note I’d had the same issues: pip system calculating gains/neutrals/losses incorrectly and unbroken blacked out despite long running games.

tried tonight after patch and unbroken working OK... But:

    • had a game where I de-pipped despite getting a neutral score (should have been zero pip change) and
    • just had two games in a row where someone disconnected prior to starting and I lost a further two pips because of it (and a toolbox)

so doesn’t seem to be resolved (on pc). Frustrating!
