Fatal Frame was so influential on horror - and like you said, is still creepy 20+ years later. I think it is a huge missed opportunity that DBD hasn't worked with them yet!! Imagine how many new fans would come to the Fatal Frame series…
I would love even more for it to be it's own chapter, but I feel like cosmetics would give us more value in this case. I think we need another male character of Asian ethnicity (though I would prefer an original character so they would get more skins), and I think Ren would be a GREAT addition to the DBD cast if they would do a chapter.

That’s not even remotely true at all. Nowhere in it’s lore at all does it hint at it killing the Huntress (FrickingNick) came up with that dumb theory and it holds not weight. The mask on its back is very clearly not The Huntress’s. It’s a Bunny mask but that’s where the similarities end. No damage, no blood, no color matching, made from different materials.
The Were Elk is The Huntress. Over 20 different times through lore and cosmetics she’s hinted at not being a human. The Were Elk is wearing a woman’s dress. Its voice is irrelevant because it sounds nothing like Elk do even remotely. All Elk are ear piercingly high pitch. Keep in mind the entity gets a lot of things wrong and most likely wanted to giver her horns for a weapon as well.
I'm not super deep into the entity lore and all killers, I just loved his design, read his stuff, and to me it read as it was implied he killed huntress. Imo the material of the mask doesn't look different to me, it just looks lower quality and clean? I also don't see what he's wearing as a dress - it two different layers, the coat part has buttons and the red part doesn't come up onto his chest in a way that makes it a dress? To me it just comes across as the dev's not wanting to put pants on him and cover up the legs/hooves they designed. And like Superyoishiegg said, female Elk don't grow antlers - even if the Entity gets things wrong, it was the developers choice to make him look and sound predominantly male, and everyone I've come across in game refers to the were-elk as he/him.
Happy to be wrong about the lore stuff and I've definitely learnt something new from what you've said from it - but they did make the voice masculine and the appearance , so I think it does still count as a male legendary skin? Baba Yaga skin makes more sense though if Huntress isn't human, so that's sick.
EDIT: someone else just told me that the were-elk killed huntresses mother and the skin is a manifestation of her fear/nightmare of it or something? -

Is it? Isnt she wearing a skirt of sorts?
the lore implied is that he killed huntress and that's why he's got her mask on his back. he's wearing a cultural tunic of some sort under what looks like to be a military jacket.

Were-Elk skin for Huntress is a male legendary skin on huntress - it would be cool to see for others tho
