  • The engravings nerfs feel really bad. They didn't even mention the increased charge time in the dev update. 2.5s base, 2.875s with one engraving, 3.25 with two, and less speed over all.

I usually run green engravings with some other misc addon, for a nice combo of speed and whatever else (turn rate, lopro, etc), and it just... feels bad.

The overheat changes also make me question what purpose overheat even serves, at this point.

Cross-map charges and mobility weren't an issue with Billy, based on how they remained untouched for literally years even after overheat. Overheat was a pain in chase for inexperienced billy players, though..

Now, suddenly, they nerf cross map charges to make room for less overheat during loops-- but why? His mobility was untouched for years after the rework, and suddenly they have to get nerfed to make room for chase usage. Which doesn't seem strong enough to warrant having overheat given they're making it heat you up less.

But if they kept both low it'd be largerly irrelevant as a mechanic-

So why have it at all?

It serves no benefits, other than acting as an artificial weakness on a B-tier killer.

At this point, the fact that they're increasing Overheat for map mobility feels like more of a justification to keep the mechanic around rather than removing it outright, when seemingly neither usage (mobility or chase) warrants having it.

  • I posted this in another thread, but, in this case it really feels like BHVR is seeing the engravings usage levels, and mis-reading them as being too strong rather than his other addons being weak.

Comparing them to some of his other addons:

First, the way OP has mentioned with the increased skillcap, the way they push his curve playstyle to its limits, the learning curve using them, etc. All good enough reason to pick them on their own and lean into that style of play.

Second, they're some of his only universally reliable addons. Lopro is great IMO, and I love yellow boots for map traversal. But, the black grease and pills? Their activation conditions are often out of your control and hard to get value out of the times they even proc. The purple boots have such a huge downside that it's painful. He's got so many intensely mediocre ones like his browns, the off brand motor oil, all four of the overheat related ones (cooldown based/"Active when overheated"), the whopping 15s of stealth (2.5s of which is taken by the chainsaw hit that procs it). So many of his addons are just.... hard to notice or even get value from.

Many of the other addons like the iris are fun gimmicks are best, but the engravings are just about the only ones that really change how he plays in an effective way other than a gimmick.

On top of everything Vel has said, it feels like interpreting their usage levels as being OP rather 2 of his 3-4 total Reliable addons is a misstep. His other addons could use some love to increase his addon variety, rather than nerfing his only consistent ones.

  • Unneeded and misguided.

I have to imagine that they're nerfing the addons because the engravings are two of the most used addons on Hillbilly- but to read that as them being overpowered is a misunderstanding of Hillbilly's current addons.

As it is, engravings are two of his best addons for a few reasons:

First, the speed they provide both makes him less predictable and allows more distance during the high turnrate phase of his charge, further increasing his skillcap and helping him deal with survivors who could run basekit billy for days.

Second, they're some of his only universally reliable addons. Lopro is great, don't get me wrong. And I love yellow boots for turning. But, the two greens for charge rate? Their activation conditions are often out of your control and hard to get value out of even then. He's got so many hard to notice or intensely mediocre ones like his browns, the off brand motor oil, all four of the overheat related ones (cooldown based/"Active when overheated"), the whopping 15s of stealth (2.5s of which is taken by the chainsaw hit that procs it)

His remaining addons like the iris are fun gimmicks are best, but the engravings are just about the only ones that really add a new level of depth to how he plays. To interprate their usage levels as being OP rather 2 of his 3-4 total Reliable addons is a misstep.

Just use Nemesis in the build... it may sound dumb, but hear me out.

Game Afoot is only as effective as your ability to swap the Obsession. Even though the perk itself does swap the Obsession, you need to actually hit them to get the 5% Haste effect. Using Nemesis swaps the Obsession upon being Pallet Stunned which perfectly fits the need for Game Afoot since you are going to be chasing Survivors and breaking Pallets anyways, it just always ensures the 5% Haste.

While true, I was mostly excited about the dark devotion-game afoot synergy for hit and run pseudo-stealth builds, rather than pure nemesis builds- and the PTB change collaterally kneecapped the synergy.
