You have to take into consideration that the new rift goes up to level 100 while the old one only had tiers up to tier 85. Also worth considering is how you can no longer earn rift fragments simply by leveling up. This means that you have to complete daily quests to make up for the missing 16.5 levels of the rift, which means that you HAVE to play the game daily in order to earn these levels. Now I agree that the reaction to this new quest system has been a bit over blown, but unless I'm missing something, having to complete daily quests in order to complete the rift sounds like an awful time. This also means that you have a limit on possible fragments earned per day, which disincentivizes playing after completing all your dailies for the day. I just can't fathom why BHVR would remove rift fragments gained from leveling while introducing this new system, if not for profiting from players buying rift tiers. Otherwise I see no need to remove fragments gained from leveling.
